Addressing Single-Use Plastics

There is a strong demand for disruptive solutions to help society tackle single-use plastics. Stby carried out several design research projects to explore how people deal with plastic in their lives, aiming to identify opportunities to minimise single-use plastics.

Exploring Motivations and Behaviours

In the UK, Stby was commissioned by SAP and Design Thinkers Academy UK to research the gap between people's aspirations to reduce plastic use and their actual daily actions. Auto-ethnography methods were used to capture daily experiences with single-use plastics, exploring the motivations, routines, and emotions that drive behaviour. For a similar project in Germany, Stby explored issues around improperly disposed plastics with an industry client and Work Experience Play, hosting an "Ocean Plastic Ideation Lab".

Collaboration to End Plastic Waste

The 'Ocean Plastic Ideation Lab' resulted in the launch of the industry collaboration, Alliance to end plastic waste.
