The Challenge of Understanding Parents' Daily Lives
Re:public conducted research to understand what parents living in Yokohama value in their daily lives to inform policy decisions. The goal was to focus on why issues arise as well as what those issues were.
Data Collection Through Expert Interviews and Auto-Ethnography
Data was collected through 'expert interviews' on child-rearing and ‘auto-ethnography’ by parents who observed and described their daily lives and environments using the LINE app. The approach captured data points that are difficult to obtain through traditional methods and provided a sense of relief for participants.
Alternative Vision for Policies Supporting Children and Child-Rearing
The research shifted the conversation from welfare to a more holistic view, emphasising community involvement in child-rearing. The project also suggested policy design should be an open and evolving process, adapting to dynamic circumstances and should be place-based
