Building a Digital Platform for Community Engagement

Rural Electrification and Mini-Grids
Mini-grids are considered a viable solution to the global energy crisis within the landscape of rural electrification. While the mini-grid sector has been rapidly expanding, tried and tested community engagement practices have been lacking. The World Bank envisioned a user-fed, video-based digital platform showcasing different users' stories, to benefit mini-grid companies globally. The platform aimed to encourage the use of mini-grids in businesses and homes in communities that have irregular or no government electricity.
Creating Video Content
Quicksand's role was to create 20 films covering the mini-grid landscape, including customers, employees, and the technology behind these systems. A video-making toolkit and a digital platform were also created to facilitate the creation and viewing of video content at the user level.
Digital Platform Outcomes
The video-based digital platform was intended to propagate the use of mini-grids.
